Backwell School has joined the Lighthouse Schools Partnership as of 1st January 2018 following a Governing Body vote in November.
Lighthouse Schools Partnership is a Multi-Academy Trust formed in September 2016. Existing members include Gordano School, High Down Schools, Portishead Primary School, St Peter’s CE Primary School and St Mary’s CE Primary School. To date schools have collaborated very closely on staff training and the development of new shared approaches to raise standards for children and young people.
Backwell School Headteacher Jon Nunes said: “I am extremely pleased that we are joining an organisation that has, at its heart, a very strong core of values around education that are shared with Backwell School and enshrined in the Backwell Charter. Joining the LSP will allow us to carry on working in this school with great autonomy while being able to benefit from close links with local primary schools and support and challenge from like-minded secondary colleagues.
“Above all, this is a fantastic development for the young people in the local area who will, in the future, be able to benefit from a fully joined-up 3-19 education based on a shared ethical commitment.”
Chief Executive Gary Lewis said: “I am excited about the opportunities that Backwell’s membership of Lighthouse Schools Partnership will facilitate for both staff and pupils at the school but also across the whole Trust. It is a great honour for us to have a school of Backwell’s reputation join and I am determined that we will build one of the strongest and most successful MATs in the South West Region.”
Plans are already underway for a number of primary-phase schools to join the Trust in February/March. These include: Backwell CE VC Junior School, West Leigh Infant School, Flax Bourton CE VC Primary School, Yatton CE VC Infant School, Yatton CE VC Junior School, Northleaze CE VC Primary School, Grove Junior School and Hannah More Infant School.
