In a Multi-Academy Trust one person is responsible to the Regional Schools Commissioner and the DfE. Gary Lewis is currently Executive Principal. In our first year he did that as a 0.2 role combining it with the Headship of Gordano School. For the academic year 2017/18 the EP role will be full-time as the Trust expands. The Executive Principal oversees school performance and produces a Key Performance Indicator Report each term for the Trustees. He is supported in this work by an independent School Improvement Partner.
As our ethos is one of collegiality we have chosen to deliver the executive functions in as open and transparent a way as possible. So we currently have an Executive team which includes all the Headteachers within the Trust. They meet at least fortnightly to discuss shared business. Each member of the Executive Team leads on a key cross-trust theme e.g. Vulnerable Learners, CPD, Assessment, Curriculum etc. Together the team produce the Trust Development Plan. A new structure will be implemented during the year to reflect the move of the Trust to a Hubs model.
At present we have a Chief Operating Officer and an HR manager and will add other roles in due course as shared serviced develop.
