Pupil numbers for Reception classes are declining and recent figures from North Somerset Council demonstrate a more long term decline of pupil numbers within some of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership primaries.

 Jo Keeble, Executive Headteacher, said: “The leadership of Yatton Voluntary Controlled Infant school are committed to providing excellence for the children of our community in a happy school. In order to do this, decisions have to be made to ensure that the children receive the resources they need to flourish and if numbers reduce locally as predicted the best way we can do this is by reducing the number of our PAN.

“Reducing the PAN allows us to ensure all resources go to the children in the school, as we create a structure that fits the number on roll, not spaces that might not be filled. We are proud of our school and the high standards of education we provide and thus know this is the right decision for our future Yatton Learners.”

Gary Lewis, Chief Executive of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, explains: “As we are facing another period of financial pressures it is very important that schools are able to run cost effectively so that we can spend our funding for the benefit of the pupils. Our schools have always co-operated fully with North Somerset Council to ensure that there are enough local school places for our communities and we will be ready to increase the Planned Admissions Number immediately if the forecasts show the need for this.”
