  • Eco teams working in unison

    Published 03/12/21

Eco teams across our three secondary schools Gordano, Backwell and Chew Valley have joined forces in working together towards achieving our target to bring greenhouse gas emissions across the Trust to net zero by 2035.

A meeting was held in November with student representatives from the Environment teams to discuss and share ideas on helping the Environment and plans for the future.

Gordano pupils have been working extremely hard to launch their whole school tree planting project. 140 free trees from the Woodland Trust were planted around the school, providing wildlife with vital habitat and food, and connecting students with the natural world around them. The Eco Team also launched a new student environmental award to encourage and celebrate students environmental awareness and participation.

Backwell pupils ensured their food waste was collected by GENECO and turned into biodiesel, paper is recycled and sourced from sustainable sources and held assemblies on environmental issues. They are working on setting up a second-hand uniform scheme, replacing filament light bulbs with LED, and working towards their Eco-schools Green Flag Award.

Chew Valley School Pupils created travel guidelines for lowering the carbon footprint of all school trips, completed the EduCCate Bronze Award, planted 108 trees, and even appeared on BBC News to highlight their environmental achievements.
