Backwell School celebrates glowing Ofsted report

Ofsted visited Backwell School on February 25 and 26 to carry out an ‘ungraded inspection’. This was in order to confirm that the school continues to be ‘Good’ as judged in the previous Ofsted visit in January 2020. Happily, the Ofsted report now published states that ‘Backwell School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection’.
“Pupils enjoy attending Backwell School, (they) know the value of being active citizens and the school has high expectation of what pupils can achieve” is just some of the praise which is included in the recent inspection report.
The report goes on to say that “The curriculum is ambitious. Pupils learn a broad range of subjects and Teachers have strong subject knowledge”.
Backwell School is renowned for its extracurricular activities, including high-quality school productions, and breadth and inclusivity of the school’s clubs, sports teams and after-school activities was also noted: “The school provides a vast array of opportunities for pupils to develop their talents and interests. The school makes sure these events are inclusive for pupils with different interests and levels of experience.”
Headteacher, Jon Nunes, was very pleased with the report’s findings “I am delighted that Ofsted recognise that pupils and staff feel supported so they can thrive at Backwell School. We take pride in delivering a wide range of learning and opportunities to our pupils meaning that Backwell School is a special place to learn and develop as a young person. We will continue to develop this further to ensure every pupil can achieve their very best”.
Following the publication of Ofsted’s report, Dr Gary Lewis, Chief Executive of Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) said, “This report, and ongoing pupil outcomes, show why Backwell School is one of the top secondary schools in the area. There is a lot to celebrate within the school community and both the staff and pupils should be very proud following this recent inspection.”
