Portishead Primary School celebrates continued praise from Ofsted

An Ofsted inspection in March 2025 has confirmed that Portishead Primary School has ‘taken effective action to maintain the standards.’  The most recent inspection was ungraded, so Ofsted’s view from June 2019 when the school was graded good is retained.

The report is full of positive reflections with inspectors commenting that “Pupils are happy” and “the school is a very positive place that embodies the school’s ethos of creating lifelong learners”. It also identifies that pupils, “feel safe and achieve well in reading, writing and mathematics.”

The expert support for pupils with additional needs was also recognised, “The school fulfils its commitment to pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) skilfully.”

Inspectors praised the relationships between school staff, pupils and parents “The school supports pupils, including the most vulnerable, to achieve their potential” and that there are “strong relationships with parents who are positive about the school and what it does.”

They also commend the range of additional activities, from lunchtime and pastoral support groups to clubs and enrichment opportunities the children can engage with to help their wider understanding and knowledge of the world.

Headteacher, Lucy Sargent, was delighted with the report’s findings, “Portishead Primary School is such a wonderful school with a really special community. I am pleased that Ofsted recognise that we continue to offer a welcoming and productive learning environment for our pupils. I am incredibly proud of our staff, pupils and their families for making our school what it is.”

Following the publication of Ofsted’s report, Dr Gary Lewis, Chief Executive of Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) said, “This report is a testament to the hard work, passion, and commitment of the entire school community. Portishead Primary School was a founding member of Lighthouse Schools Partnership in 2016 and the school continues to be a bright light for our Trust and wider community.”
