Burrington CofE Primary School celebrates inclusive culture

Following an inspection in November 2025, Burrington CofE Primary School celebrates a positive Ofsted report.

This is the first time the school has been inspected under Section 5 of the Education Act 2005 and was conducted under the new Ofsted framework in which single word judgements for overall effectiveness are no longer awarded.

The inspection team identified an inclusive environment where “pupils enjoy their learning” and where values such as compassion, perseverance and diversity are celebrated. The report acknowledges the school’s close links with a school in Zambia, which “enhance pupils’ understanding of different cultures and faiths”.

It was noted that pupils at Burrington feel valued and know they belong, creating a 'family feel', where “Leaders work closely with families, professionals and external agencies to identify any barriers to success for pupils”. The report also notes the positive relationship between pupils, and staff “who treat them with care and respect. Staff are deeply mindful of pupil’s wellbeing”.

The wider provision offered to pupils was also mentioned, with inspectors noting the “school's extensive range of opportunities prepares pupils strongly for the future” and supports pupils developing their own talents and interests. The report acknowledged the school’s focus on ensuring this is applied across the whole school, with the report noting, “leaders make intelligent decisions to ensure that all pupils, including pupils who are disadvantaged, benefit from this”.

Pupil behaviour was also praised, with the report highlighting the positive behaviour shown by pupils across the school, “Pupils behave well and have positive attitudes to their learning… Leaders and staff have created an environment in which unfair or unkind behaviour is not tolerated”.

Following publication of the report, Headteacher, Ms Sarah Joskey, said “We are incredibly proud of the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. The report truly reflects the dedication, warmth and hard work that our staff and pupils bring to school life every single day. I am particularly pleased that the wide range of opportunities we offer pupils was recognised. Developing inquisitive, well-round learners is something we are really passionate about.”

Dr Gary Lewis, Chief Executive of Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) said, “Under the new Ofsted framework, inspectors looked closely at every aspect of a school’s provision, and it is wonderful to see Burrington’s strengths recognised so clearly. This report is a celebration of the school’s approach to learning and personal development which ensures that pupils, and staff, are given the best opportunities to develop and flourish.”
